On Tuesday, December 10th, 42 student leaders from across the TCDSB volunteered at the annual Toronto Breakfast Club Toy Drive / Christmas Gala sponsored by Spin Master Toys.
Primary and junior elementary students from various schools in the GTA entered these gates to be treated to some awesome Christmas joy!!
Lucky students experienced an amazing day where they were treated like princes and princesses:
1. Toy Spree
2. Picture with Santa
3. Games / Play Room
3. Hi-Five Tunnel
4. Gourmet Lunch
5. Return to school with gifts galore
First stop on the toy adventure: Fill your sac with any toys of your desire!!
There were tables upon tables of toys of all shapes and sizes!
So much to choose from…….decisions, decisions, decisions
This picture really gives you a sense of how big the toy room was and how much choice all the kids had!
Student leaders get to meet NBA all-star and former Toronto Raptor, Jamal Magloire (and you thought Simeon was tall)
Without the Spinmaster volunteers (aka Angels), this event would be impossible
After the kids all picked their toys, it was time to see the big man himself, Ol’ Saint Nick, aka Santa Clause
Up next: The Playroom. Watch the video below as the Playroom officially opens.
Time to PLAY!
Just like the toy room, there’s so many things to choose from…….like playing with a Boom Boom Ballon
Or half-piping with finger skateboards
Or playing with these crazy, twisty slides
Or playing with these flying hovercrafts (so cool!)
You can even get balloons
Or get your face painted
Or play with silly string
Or learn dance moves from this Mine Craft dude
Complete with jumping castle
And inflatable slide (student leaders, aren’t you too old for that!)
Look how big this playroom is and how so many kids are having the time of their lives!
While the kids were enjoying themselves in the playroom, our student leaders were organizing all the toys they selected
I feel like Santa
Here’s where we stored all the toys while the children played
Back in the playroom, a dance party broke out
Lead by the student leaders of course!
These elementary kids can dance!
“Everybody clap your hands”
Look who’s under that Minecraft head…..Milky Way himself
Everybody is having a good time
Especially the student leaders!
After having fun in the playroom, the student leaders and other volunteers g0t ready to greet the lucky kids as they enter the dining hall for lunch
First through the high-five tunnel – Mr. and Mrs. Clause
Elementary students are greeted with a celebrity welcome
Here comes one of our schools, St. Bernard
This gorgeous dining all is what awaits the elementary students at the end of the high-five tunnel
Students fill the dining hall (and this is just one third of the tables!)
Student leaders watch from above as the watch all the kids take their seat
Time to eat! St. Bernard students enjoying the special treatment
On the menu: Hot dogs and…..
Pasta served by student leaders from Bishop Marrocco Thomas Merton
Even Mr. and Mrs. Clause need to recharge and eat
The program official begins with the Canadian National Anthem
City TVs Gord Martineau was the event’s official Master of Ceremonies
Student leaders get to take a break, eat lunch, and….
Nicole! Please use a glass!
Time for a “Fierce” pose before getting back to work
Time to clear the plates before hitting the coat check
This is what coat check for 800 elementary students looks like. Throw in over a 2000 thousand toys in the mix and this is what you get!
Good job student leaders. TEAM on 3
TEAM! T-ogether, E-verybody, A-chieves, M-ore
Time for one more “fierce” pose before going home
Congratulations on an amazing day full of Christmas joy and cheer! Now we’re almost ready to do the same thing while we’re in the Philippines (only difference: most of the kids there speak little English!)
I think we’re READY!
