Day 10 – Tarlac (Build Day 2)

January 6, 2017

It’s our second day at our Paniqui, Tarlac build site.

It’s so nice not to say bye to the kids and being able to see them the next day.
We have a full day of work ahead.
We all try new jobs then what we did yesterday.
Even though we’ve made a dent in the sand, it’ll take days to finish!
We work until noon. Time for lunch.
So cute! Puppies are adorable too 🙂

After lunch, Mike teaches two local barbers how to use electric clippers that we will be donating to the community.
After the afternoon build we take time to play with the kids.

  1. ?Such treasures are kept for a long time!

Thank you for the difference you make!

  2. Once we taught the kids Stella Ella Ola, that was it. All that the kids wanted to play from there on out was Stella. You could play it with two people or twenty, and it was still fun. Plus, it really was a way to get around the language barrier. You don’t actually need to know the meaning of the words to sing it, after all! (I know I sure don’t!) It was a great way to play with the kids who were younger and didn’t know as much English as the older ones.

  3. After a long and tiring day under the sun, the kids enthusiasm to play games afterwards energized us all. No matter how tired or sweaty we were, seeing the kids happy made us even happier. Oh, and we can’t forget about Kuya Tyler’s infamous fall on this day haha.

  4. I remember for the piggy back races, Tyler was beside me and he says “Hey Chris, be careful, I slipped earlier.” so I said “Oh true, thanks for the heads up.” Al then proceeded with on your marks, get set, go! I ran my hardest trying to win that race, and when I got to the finish line, Tyler wasn’t there, so I look back and he was on the floor. At first it was concerning obviously, but after he cleaned up and washed off, he had huge cuts!! This made it even more alarming, but after I found out that he was okay, I laughed soooo hard because this guy gave me a head up, but he was the one that fell. Then seeing the video Consul recorded I laughed even harder, because I was able to see HOW he fell LOL; sorry bud!! (on the bright side, you saved the girl from getting hurt)

  5. Rip to Ty’s face. But it’s okay, all of the Tita’s ran to his rescue. I also got my undercut done this day!

  6. I’ve gotten used to interacting with the kids and I always looked forward to playing with them in the afternoon after working. 🙂

  7. Work didn’t seem like work when we were helped by the kids in the village. It was fun to interact with them while working under the hot sun and it was even more fun just being able to play with them after.

  8. Today was a very memorable day… I remember falling quite hard. But not nearly as hard as I fell for the community, and the joy they brought us. *Cue the tears and oohs and aahs*

  9. Today, my group tried a new task as Mark, Al and I cut the wires!! The highlight of the day for everyone, of course was when Tyler fell!! I was super shook, but good thing he was aye okay!!!

  10. The workload wasn’t bad at all! Having the kids around makes everything better and happier. That was the day I realized I’m not that quick in piggy back racing!! I don’t know how Sabs, Chris, Ty, and Azize did it but they were so fast. Seeing Ty fall had my mouth drop but seeing him now makes it all better because he’s good!!!

  11. Today was more relaxed because I knew what we were doing and I was prepared! Piggy back racing was super fun!

  12. Working under the heat wasn’t too bad because of the water breaks and ice cream! The piggyback race was so much fun but I had birks on which made me super conscious of falling. Tyler’s fall was crazy but good thing he was okay!

  13. Definitely an eventful day. The kids all had so much fun, especially during the races 🙂
