February 7th, 2019 – Leaders gather in Quigley hall for the first meeting of 2019!
After a wonderful greeting from TCDSB Vice-Chair Michael Del Grande, the leaders got up on their feet for a classic Catholic Student Leadership game, Rock, Paper, Scissors…Evolution!
This month’s guest speaker was Nicole Bazzocchi from Trek for Teens! Trek for Teens is an amazing foundation that focuses on the issue of youth homelessness. Since 2007 T4T has raised over $175,000 dollars for charities like Covenant House, Horizons for Youth, and Youth Without Shelter. You can learn more about Trek for Teens at https://www.trekforteens.com
Another ECSLIT meeting means another teacher challenge! This month, 10 teachers were challenged to move an elastic band from around their upper lip to their necks without using their hands and only moving the muscles in their faces! Feel free to bring this activity back to your schools, all you need are large elastic bands and some participants!
Since December, schools had THREE challenges to complete!
First, we had our Aangen donations. Aangen is a non-profit that helps needy families in Toronto. Thank you to all the schools who brought in donations, together we collected enough family toiletries to fill a car. Check out our vlog below to see where your donations went!
Next, students were asked to bring in signed postcards for Development and Peace’s Share the Journey Campaign. Former TCDSB Student Trustee Natalie Rizzo, now with development and peace, stopped by to collect them. Thank you to everyone who brought in postcards! You can find out more about the Share the Journey campaign at D&P’s website: https://www.devp.org/en/education/fall2018
Finally, schools were challenged to create their very own Catholic Student Leadership videos, using the tagline:
Catholic Student Leadership… Get Involved!
Now, for next month’s challenge! For the next challenge, each school is asked to build a toilet paper roll car! Check out the rules below:
Have your cars ready for our next meeting, which will be on…
