Day 8 – Milcah’s Debut (18th Bday)

January 4th, 2017

While at the ANCOP AVANAI community, we had a very special 18th birthday celebration for Milcah.

In Filipino culture, it is traditional for girls to celebrate a “debut” on their 18th birthday which includes a cotillion and an 18 roses dance. In Milcah’s case, she had a dance with all 27 other members of the #PH2k16 team.

Happy Birthday Milcah. #BestDebutEver

Watch the rest of our visit in AVANAI on the previous post.

Thanks for following our travels.

  1. I haven’t known Milcah for very long, and I still don’t know much about her. What I do know is that she was always excited to play with kids and and that she put in so much effort into this trip. I’m glad that we could all celebrate such a milestone in her life in a wonderful place like Avanai.

  2. This was such a cute moment for the whole team especially for Milcah. Knowing that she was spending her birthday while doing volunteer work but have been such a fulfilling moment in her life.

  3. Most people plan their debuts almost a year before the date it commences. Who knew that the people of Avanai could pull off Milcah’s 18+ roses on the spot. What tied everything together was the live SPONTANEOUS performance of 18 rose-esque songs done by the band. I think it’s safe to say that this is one of Milcah’s most memorable birthdays.

  4. Before going on this service mission, my parents made me decide on whether I would want a debut or partake on this adventure. I didn’t have to think about it for too long before deciding I wanted to go to the Philippines and go on this once in a lifetime adventure. I clearly did not make the wrong decision as this was honestly the best birthday I have ever celebrated, better than having a real debut!!! I even got to do the the 18 (and more!) roses with the help of my new found family and the amazing talent of the band which happened to play some of the favourite songs which we all sang and danced to all night. Thank you to Avanai and the PH fam for making this happen and making this one of the most memorable birthdays ever!! I’m truly blessed. I love you all!! ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️

  5. I’m just happy that Milcah got her debut, and not mention in the motherland!! That was a once in a lifetime party and even though it wasn’t my celebration it was one of the best parties I have ever been to.
